Morogoro Vocational Teachers Training College- MVTTC

The history of vocational teacher training in Tanzania goes back to 1973 when an Instructor Training Unit (ITU) was established within the campus of the present Dar es Salaam Regional Vocational Training and Service Centre (DSM - RVTSC). ITU was established through a technical aid from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The
purpose of establishing ITU was to produce vocational teachers for the then National Vocational Training Division (NVTD), which was transformed in 1995 into the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) by the VET Act No.1 of 1994.

The ITU service was expanded following the government resolution of 1980,which called for each mainland Tanzania region to have a vocational training centre by year 1990.This resolution prompted the decision of establishing a full fledged college for vocational teachers development at Morogoro. Construction of the college was financed by the World Bank (WB) under CIDA and was completed in 1987. The name ITU was changed to Instructor
Training Centre (ITC). In 1990 ITC was renamed Morogoro Vocational Teachers Training College (MVTTC). The VET Act No.1 of 1994 established MVTTC as a semi autonomous institution and a resource centre for vocational education and training in Tanzania.

MVTTC currently has only one campus located at the foot of the famous Uluguru mountain range at an altitude of about 500 metres above sea level. The campus covers an area of 7887 square meters. It comprises teacher-training facilities, VETA Eastern Zone Office and a Basic Vocational Training Centre.
